Brandon Wrestlers Decisive With 28th Annual Tony Ippolito Win

Check another box in the Brandon High School wrestling team's record book. The Eagles take home another crown, this one at the 28th Annual Tony Ippolito Memorial Tournament. It's the team's 26th Ippolito crown.

Nine Brandon wrestlers advanced to the finals and all nine Eagles took home the top prize at the 28th Annual Tony Ippolito Memorial Tournament.

Named in honor and memory of the school’s first-ever state championship, the two-day tournament completed its 28th year, at Brandon High, on Jan. 21.

For the Eagles, it was the team’s 20th consecutive Ippolito tournament victory and 26th tournament title overall.

"I think the way we wrestled shows how much this tournament means to us,” Brandon head coach Russ Cozart told The Tampa Tribune. "We had second and third seeds in the finals, and they all won.”

Thirty-two teams competed with Brandon’s victory (326.5 points) decisive. The draw included 13 teams from Hillsborough County. In order of points, they were: Jesuit Plant City, Wharton, Strawberry Crest, East Bay, Robinson, King, Bloomingdale, Hillsborough, Alonso, Chamberlain and Freedom (see points below).
