Bully Prevention and Reporting: Back-To-School Countdown (Day 17)

The Hillsborough County School District has zero tolerance for bullying. Toward that end, online resources, posters for downloading and reporting forms are available.

The Brandon Patch Back-To-School Countdown proceeds with this Day 17 report, offering news of interset as the first day of classes approaches.

Teachers in the Hillsborough County School District go back to school Aug. 15 to prepare for the first day of classes, Aug. 23.

The Hillsborough County School District's anti-bullying policy is noted on its website. Students and employees of Hillsborough's public schools are to have "an educational setting that is safe, secure and free from harassment and bullying of any type.”

Toward that end, the "Bully Prevention and Reporting” page offers the following useful information:

  • A reporting system has been created to appropriately identify, report, investigate, and respond to situations of bullying and harassment. Click here for the online form to report a bully.
  • School officials, in consultation with students, parents, teachers, administrators, school staff, school volunteers, community representatives and local law enforcement agencies have developed a policy as part of a comprehensive plan intended to prevent bullying and harassment. The policy is available in both English and Spanish.
  • The site offers links to resources to learn more about bullying and bullying prevention.
  • The Classroom Teachers Association in the spring conducted a bullying prevention poster contest. The winning posters are pictured online and can be printed for use at area schools. The winning artists are Danielle Martin, second grade, Hammond Elementary School; Bing Chen, fifth grade, Essrig Elementary School; and Kristen Spero, Steinbrenner High School.
