Cell Phones Collected for a Cause

Used cell phones, pagers, PDA's, and toner- and inkjet-cartridges are being collected July 12-14 at Nova Southeastern University's Tampa Student Educational Center in Sabal Park. The drive benefits the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

A three-day cell phone drive to benefit the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay kicks off July 12 at the Greater Brandon campus of Nova Southeastern University.

Students of the doctor of health science program, at the Sabal Park campus, are collecting the phones to benefit families victimized by violence, abuse or neglect.

The healthcare industry "needs leaders who can roll up their sleeves and inspire others to make a difference in our communities,” said student government president Christopher Tilton, in a release on the program.

Some of the donated cell phones will be given to seniors, at no cost, as “911” emergency phones. They also will be given to victims of domestic violence and other at-risk individuals who cannot afford to purchase a cell phone.

Some of the donated items will be recycled to help raise funds for the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay.

Nova’s Doctor of Health Science program is a post-professional, distance-based, academic doctoral program designed for master's prepared clinical health professionals, public health practitioners, and senior-level healthcare administrators.

Once a year, these distance-based students join together for a single week to complete a Summer Institute and connect with faculty and their fellow students with whom they have been exchanging ideas and information with the preceding year.
