The school district’s comprehensive website includes a “Back To School” page that provides a wealth of information, including news on:

School Supplies

  • Requirements vary from school to school and teacher to teacher and oftentimes are noted on each school district’s individual website. Also, some stores, like Walmart, offer at their entrances copies of these lists by school.

Enrollment and Calendar

  • The first day of school for students is Aug. 23 and placement is determined by student and parental choice and by school attendance boundaries, which can be determined with the district’s online school locator. Also noted are options for choosing the school your child will attend. The 2011-12 school calendar notes three grading periods, with ending dates of Oct. 20, Jan. 13 and March 30.

Early Release

  • Students this school year across all grade levels will be released one hour early every Monday.

School-Specific Information

  • Each school has its own website page, which includes links to each school’s individual website, accessible through the find-a-school directory. The school district’s page for each school includes links to the school’s boundary map, its hours, bus route information, vision, mission, history, "School Improvement” and "No Child Left Behind School Public Accountability" reports (dating back to the 2005-06 school year). The website for each individual school includes detailed information about school events and happenings as well as newsletter information and faculty, staff and administration identifications.

Student Handbook

  • Each year students are given a copy of the school district’s manual for students during the first few days of school. The 2011-12 Student Handbook is online as well and includes information on student rights and responsibilities, the code of conduct and dress-code requirements. Anything and everything that dictates how a child needs to behave, what is required of them academically by grade level, how they get to school and what is offered to them, including extracurricular activities, is included.

And More . . .

  • The school district’s back-to-school webpage also includes information on immunizations and physicals, end-of-the-year requirements (including graduation requirements and student records request forms), information for prospective and current teachers and school district news releases.
