Durant Crowns a Queen, Homecoming Draws a Crowd

The 2012 Homecoming Queen was crowned on the football field at Durant High School on Oct. 12 before a large crowd there to see the Durant Cougars continue their domination with a sixth win in the team's undefeated season.

At the game, fans, players and cheerleaders sported the color pink to signify their support of October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"It feels great," said Sydney Robinson, about her school's domination on the football field this year. "I'm really looking forward to them going to the playoffs. This is my last year so I'm looking forward to going as far as we can in football and competitive cheerleading."

Celeste Lewis, Durant's 2011 homecoming queen, returned to Plant City for the game from her studies at the University of Alabama, where she said she is studying mass communications. Her goal is to become a broadcast journalist.

"It's sad, but I'm excited," she said, before learning who would he her successor. As for her alma mater's undefeated season, she added: "It's amazing, and it's good to be a part of it."
