Durant Beats Riverview, Cougars 1 Game Shy of a Perfect Season

It's a season to remember for the Durant Cougars, who came home from Riverview with their ninth win of the season. Brandon loses by 1, Newsome makes it a winning season (at the expense of Plant City) and Armwood comes through with a fourth-quarter

  

There have been lots of Cougar moments this football season and they're all leading up to what likely is to become Durant's perfect season.

The Cougars on Nov. 2 traveled to Riverview and came home with their ninth win of the season, beating the Sharks 57-27.

Durant, under head coach Mike Gottman, entered the game ranked 354 in the nation and 31 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. En route to a perfect season, the Cougars this season have beaten Freedom, Alonso, Brandon, Wharton, Plant City, Chamberlain, Newsome, East Bay and Riverview (see chart below).

The Cougars have amassed 329 points in nine outings, averaging out to 36.6 points per game. Their closest game was a one-pointer win over Wharton. The Cougars this year shut-out Alonso, Brandon and Chamberlain.

To make it a perfect season, the Cougars have to beat King at home on Nov. 9. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

In other high school football action Nov. 2 (per online reports):

  • Armwood came through with a fourth-quarter win over King. Final score: 19-8. The Armwood Hawks finish their regular season 7-3.
     
  • Brandon, coming off a two-point loss to Plant City the week before, bowed to East Bay by one, with a final score of 7-6. The Eagles are 1-8 for the season with one game left to play, Nov. 9, against Jefferson.
  • The Newsome Wolves, before a home crowd, made it a winning season (5-4),  thanks to the team's 40-7 victory over Plant City. The Raiders are 4-5 for the season. Newsome ends the regular season at home, Nov. 9, against Bloomingdale. Plant City ends the season Nov. 9, also at home, against Tampa Bay Tech.
