The undefeated Durant Cougars, following last week's 49-0 shutout win against the Chamberlain Chiefs, host the Newsome Wolves in Plant City tonight, Oct. 18. The Thursday night game is possible because there is no school Friday, which marks the end of the first grading period.
Durant faces the Wolves (3-3 overall, 2-0 in league play), ranked nationally and in the state at 3,507 and 210, respectively, according to MaxPreps.com.
Newsome looks to extend its three-game winning streak after dropping the first three games of the season. The Wolves beat East Bay (30-22), Chamberlain (31-28) and Brandon (35-13). Newsome lost to Tampa Bay Tech (10-34), Jefferson (37-39) and Hillsborough (23-37).
Meanwhile, the Cougars (6-0 overall, 2-0 in league play) are ranked 319 in the nation and 32 in the state, up 62 and seven spots, respectively, according to MaxPreps.com. The Cougars this season beat Freedom, Alonso, Brandon, Wharton, Plant City and Chamberlain (see chart below).
The Oct. 18 contest kicks off 7:30 p.m. in Plant City, at 4748 Cougar Path Road.
Going into tonight's game, the Cougars in 2012 have amassed 206 points in six outings, averaging out to 34 points per game.
