Grand Winners Named for the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival Parade

Durant, Bloomingdale and Strawberry Crest high school marching bands collect three of the 12 grand winner awards granted at the close of the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival Parade in Plant City.

The votes are in for the Berry Fine Productions staging of the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival Parade, held March 5 in Plant City.

Some things you should know:

  • Miss Florida Jaclyn Raulerson, a Plant City resident and Durant High School graduate, served as the parade’s grand marshal.
  • Grand Parade Day at the 2011 Florida Strawberry Festival, underway through March 13, was sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps.
  • The festival’s mascot is Mr. Berry.
  • It was the first year an independent company ran the parade, which before had been handled by the Florida Strawberry Festival Board of Directors.
  • The world-renowned Florida Strawberry Festival, now in its 76th year, is a not-for-profit undertaking and is staged annually by some 2,500 volunteers. The 2011 festival runs from March 3-13.

In all, 12 parade awards were granted in four categories:

Best Marching/Special Feature Unit:

  • First Place — Durant High School Cougar Pride Marching Band
  • Second Place — Bloomingdale High School Rajun’ Bull Marching Band
  • Third Place — Strawberry Crest High School Charger Marching Band

Most Outstanding Business/Commercial Float:

  • First Place — Strawberry Cloggers
  • Second Place — Regions Bank
  • Third Place — Sweetbay Band

Most Outstanding Antique Group:

  • First Place — Robert Raulerson
  • Second Place — Ron Wetherington / First Baptist Community Church
  • Second Place (tie) — Ray Clark / Plant City High School FFA

Most Outstanding Civic/Church Float:

  • First Place — Plant City Lions Club
  • Second Place — St. Mary’s
  • Third Place — In Living Color
