Greater Brandon Set To Relay For Life as Eastern County Total Nears $400,000
The Relay For Life season in Eastern Hillsborough County enters its second of three weekends with overnight fundraisers at Brandon High School and Burnett Middle School. The Brandon and Seffner/Dover events kick off April 1 at 6 p.m.
The Greater Brandon Relay For Life starts tonight, April 1, topping $50,000 in funds raised while the Seffner/Dover Relay For Life, a much smaller event, starts the night with more than $20,000.
That’s great news for the 2011 Relay For Life season in Eastern Hillsborough County, which launched March 25-27 with overnight fundraisers at Bloomingdale, Newsome and Riverview high schools.
Collectively, the first three events drew 138 teams and 2,331 participants. As of April 1 at 2 p.m., the events raised $238,933.02 for cancer awareness, support and research.

For a preview of what’s ahead, a was shot at Riverview High School, showcasing some of the many features of a Relay event, including special walks, decorated campsites and themed activities.
Also as of April 1, the six sites in Eastern Hillsborough County had reported 270 teams, 4,028 participants and $374,721.12 raised. (See chart below.)

The Plant City Relay For Life at Plant City High School is scheduled for April 8-9. Each year for years it is one of the top Relays in the state, with funds adding up in the days leading up to and following the event.
