HCC Summer Registration Under Way; 7 Classes at Brandon's Regent

Deadline is May 9 for Hillsborough Community College classes, including the seven courses on tap for two summer sessions at HCC at The Regent in Riverview, an extension of the Brandon campus.

Registration is under way for summer courses at Hillsborough Community College at The Regent, which serves as an extension of the Brandon campus.

Classes for the first of two summer sessions start May 16. The second session starts June 29. The deadline to register is May 9.

Seven classes are on the list of offerings this summer for the newly opened Greek Revival building that sits in the southeast corner of the Winthrop development, at 6437 Watson Road. (See course list below.)

HCC at The Regent opened in January with continuing education offerings and four community college classes: financial accounting, introduction to music, personal finance and world humanities. The building sits between the Brandon campus of Hillsborough Community College (HCC), at 10414 East Columbus Drive, and the South Shore campus in Ruskin.

“We’re an easy to get to location, especially for students from Brandon, Riverview, Bloomingdale and FishHawk, said Dann Berkowitz, who manages HCC at The Regent as a satellite of the larger Brandon campus.

Regent classrooms are in the lower level of the roughly 30,000- square-foot building. It was constructed with federal, state and county dollars to serve also as a multi-use special events facility and a hurricane shelter capable of withstanding winds up to 190 miles per hour, as was required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in its post-Katrina requirements.

“We have beautiful, new classrooms and we’re easy to get to,” Berkowitz said. Moreover, he added, there are computer labs on site for use by registered HCC students.

“We’re always open to suggestions for classes the community would like to see us offer,” Berkowitz said. "That’s very important to us."

HCC classes offered this summer are:

  • Early American History (AMH 1010)  - Session B
  • Introduction to Computers (CGS 1000) - Session B
