International Guild Piano Students Perform, Awarded at Music Showcase

Music Showcase of Brandon hosted the Fifth Annual International Piano Guild Award Ceremony, at which 37 students performed.

 

Music Showcase of Brandon recently hosted the Fifth Annual International Piano Guild Award Ceremony, at which Lisa Pearce, chairman of the guild, and teachers Jean Hackley, Angela Ellis and Ralph Franza held a recital involving 37 guild piano students.

According to a news release on the event, the students were part of a closed juried event in June and part of the awards ceremony Aug. 25.

"Students have to memorize and play scales and songs, sometimes as many as 10 each," the report notes.

Three students from the central Florida area — Sarah Berrie, Tess Lowke and Sameer Naik — reportedly were standouts at this year's event.

About the International Piano Guild

  • It holds yearly auditions around the world with music professionals grading students on accuracy, continuity, phrasing, pedaling, dynamics, rhythm, tempo, tone, interpretation, style and technique.
  • The audition, open for students of all levels, is a yearly event at Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Drive in Brandon.
  • The guild's purpose is to encourage growth and enjoyment of the piano.
  • Auditioning students receive the prestige of becoming guild members for a year. They also get report cards and academic accreditation on college applications and resumes. Requests can be made for community service credit.
