Music Showcase of Brandon recently hosted the Fifth Annual International Piano Guild Award Ceremony, at which Lisa Pearce, chairman of the guild, and teachers Jean Hackley, Angela Ellis and Ralph Franza held a recital involving 37 guild piano students.
According to a news release on the event, the students were part of a closed juried event in June and part of the awards ceremony Aug. 25.
"Students have to memorize and play scales and songs, sometimes as many as 10 each," the report notes.
Three students from the central Florida area — Sarah Berrie, Tess Lowke and Sameer Naik — reportedly were standouts at this year's event.
