New School Year Press Conference: Back-To-School Countdown (Day 31)

Superintendent of Schools MaryEllen Elia is set to hold the Hillsborough County School District's annual "Back-To-School Press Conference" on Aug. 19 at the single-gender academy at Ferrell Middle Magnet School in Tampa.

The Brandon Patch Back-To-School Countdown proceeds with this Day 31 report, offering news of interset as the first day of classes approaches.

Teachers in the Hillsborough County School District go back to school Aug. 15 to prepare for the first day of classes, Aug. 23.

The Hillsborough County School District holds its annual “Back-To-School News Conference” on Aug. 19, at 10 a.m., at the Girls Preparatory Academy media center at Ferrell Middle Magnet School in Tampa.

The location highlights the single-gender academies offered by the school district.

The press conference, too, is designed to give an overview of the year ahead as the school officials gear up to serve about 200,000 public school students.

The Hillsborough County School District is the eighth-largest school district in the nation.

 Superintendent of Schools MaryEllen Elia will focus her remarks on single-gender academies, including details about iPads and apps, uniforms and special programs, according to school officials.

Invited to attend are the most recently named:

  • Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year, Cynthia Folsom Crim, of Palm River Elementary School;
  • Ida S. Baker Diversity Educator of the Year, Cassandra E. Davis, of Seffner Elementary School; and the
  • We Deliver Award recipient, Melanie Bolender, a migrant reading teacher at Reddick Elementary School.
