Summer Reading Rewards: Back-To-School Countdown (Day 5)
Summer reading for grades 1-6 is the subject of this fifth posting in a 41-day effort that gives you news you can use as you count down the days before the opening bell of the 2011-12 school year. Hillsborough public school reopen August 23.

Teachers in the Hillsborough County School District go back to school August 15 to prepare for the first day of school for students, August 23.

We could discuss the merits of intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation to get your kid to read but we'll defer that debate to another time and post.

With that in mind, keep in mind the Barnes & Noble Summer Reading program, which consists of three easy rules for kids:
1. Read any eight books and record them in the Barnes & Noble reading log, available at any store, including the one in Brandon. Or, download the reading journal.
2. Augment your reading with fun activities and teaching tips. Download a Parent Activity Kit or an Educator Kit.
3. Turn in a completed log at any local Barnes & Noble store and choose a free book from the list of books offered (see below).
