Armwood High Knocks Out Miami Central for Class 6A State Title

The Hawks secured a 40-31 win to claim a perfect season and the team's third state championship since 2003. Head Coach Sean Callahan's powerhouse Armwood team beat Miami Central at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 17.

ORLANDO — On a day when all eyes would be on stars like Matt Jones, Alvin Bailey and Joseph Yearby, unlikely heroes emerged.

Armwood High backup running back Wade Edwards scored a game-swinging touchdown that helped lead the Hawks to 40-31 win over Miami Central in the Class 6A state championship game at the Citrus Bowl.

Miami Central was down 16-0 in the first quarter, only to bounce back and cut Armwood's lead to 23-21 in the third. However, the Hawks defense, stalwart all year long, shut the Rockets down on their final drive to secure Armwood's third state championship.
