Brandon High Wrestling Going for 40th Straight County Championship

The Eagles, coming off a commanding showing at the 28th Ippolito Memorial Tournament, begin their quest for another Hillsborough County title this week.

Fresh off a , the Brandon High wrestling team is in line for more glory at the Hillsborough County Championships this week.

The Eagles, who went 9-for-9 in the finals at this past weekend's tournament, are one of 27 public schools that will compete Friday and Saturday at East Bay High for the county title, TBO.com reports. Brandon High owns a string of 39 straight Hillsborough County championships, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

TBO's Adam Adkins reports that six of the seven returning county champions from last year are from Brandon — Rossi Bruno, Clark Glass, James Flint, Kevin Norstrem, Kyle Koziel and Travis Berridge. All six of those wrestlers were medalists at this year's Ippolito.

The Eagles won 12 of 14 weight classes at last year's county meet.

The county tournament begins at 2 p.m. Friday and continues at 11 a.m. Saturday.
