Brandon Wrestlers Dominating at Class 3A State Tournament

Wrestling is underway at the Lakeland Center, where the Brandon High School Eagles are vying for an 11th consecutive state crown, and 22nd state title overall. Nine of 14 qualifying Brandon wrestlers advance to the finals.

Looks like the Brandon High School wrestling team is in good stead to take home an 11th state crown — and 22nd state title overall — with nine team wrestlers advancing to the final round of competition at the Lakeland Center.

Team scores going into the second, and final, day of competition, Feb. 19, show Brandon with 116.50 points, topping South Dade (Homestead) and Winter Springs and their 56.50 and 56 points, respectively. In fourth place: Kissimmee-Osceola, with 44 points.

As reported online, at the Florida High School Athletic Associationscorebook for the Class 3A state tournament, Brandon wrestlers Devan Berrian (103 pounds), James Flint (112 pounds), Kevin Norstrem (125 pounds), Rossi Bruno (130 pounds), Tyler Liberatore (135 pounds), Travis Berridge (145 pounds), Clark Glass (152 pounds), Wally Figaro (160 pounds) and Kyle Koziel (171 pounds) have advanced to the finals.

Brandon for a second year in a row qualified to send a wrestler in each of the 14 weight classes to state competition.

Rounding out the roster of Class 3A, Region 2 regional champions are Brandon wrestlers Brice Jones (140 pounds) and Michael Ettore (185 pounds), who lost in the semi-finals; and Victor Fugate (119 pounds); Lorenzo Martinez (215 pounds) and Jo Dudley (285 pounds).
