Brandon Wrestlers, Others Named To All-County List; Cozart Named Top Coach

The St. Petersburg Times names its All-Hillsborough County wrestlers. Top honors go to Eagles Rossi Bruno and Clark Glass as Russ Cozart earns top coach honors. All 14 Brandon wrestlers make the list, which includes other Greater Brandon area wrestlers.

The St. Petersburg Times has named its All-Hillsborough County wrestlers and top of the list, as co-wrestlers of the year, are Brandon High School wrestlers Rossi Bruno and Clark Glass.

Named as top coach of the year: Brandon High School Wrestling Head Coach Russ Cozart. All 14 of his wrestlers qualified for state competition; seven came home with state titles and another four as placeholders. Brandon High earned its 22nd state title this year, and 11th state title in a row. Cozart has been at the helm for 21 of those state titles.

Bruno, a junior, at 130 pounds amassed a 63-1 record, losing his only match in the region finals, his third loss of his high school career. He went on to claim his fourth gold medal, at the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Class 3A state finals, against the same wrestler he lost to in the regional competition, Aaron Hartman.

Also a junior, Glass compiled a 65-1 record in the 152-pound weight class, earning is fourth state title as well at the Class 3A state finals. Since wrestling as a seventh-grader at Tampa Bay Christian, Glass has compiled 263 wins, according to the Times report.

  • 112 pounds: James Flint, 50-5
  • 125 pounds: Kevin Norstrem, 63-0
  • 135 pounds: Tyler Liberatore, 50-0
  • 140 pounds: Brice Jones, 48-17
  • 145 pounds: Travis Berridge, 57-10
  • 160 pounds: Wally Figaro, 64-2
  • 171 pounds: Kyle Koziel, 62-1
  • 189 pounds: Mike Ettore, 65-2
  • 285 pounds: Joe Dudley, 46-21

Making the second-team cut:

  • 119 pounds: Victor Fugate, 55-12
  • 215 pounds: Lorenzo Martinez, 49-10

Honorable mention:

  • 103 pounds: Devan Berrian

  • First team, 130 pounds: Eric Frankin, of Spoto (44-9)

  • Second team, 152 pounds: Tyler Dutrieux, of Armwood (35-15)
  • Second team, 171 pounds: Gilbert Stokes, of Durant (40-13)
  • Second team, 189 pounds: Kenny Rach, of Bloomingdale (49-14)
  • Honorable mention, 135 pounds: Skip Reagor, of Bloomingdale
  • Honorable mention, 119 pounds: Chase Haley, of Durant
  • Honorable mention, 135 pounds: James Aikman, of Spoto
  • Honorable mention, 189 pounds: Kris O’Brien, of Strawberry Crest
