Reader's Report: Olympian Hopeful Qualifies From BSAC's Blue Wave Team

Maddie Hess qualifies for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials thanks to her strong showing at the U.S. Senior Nationals in Atlanta. She beat a record set by Olympian Maritza Correia, also as a teenager training at the Brandon Sports & Aquatic Center.

At the U.S. Senior Nationals in Atlanta on Dec. 3, Maddie Hess, a member of the Blue Wave Swim Team at BSAC, qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, according to report released by the popular Brandon center.

Hess is coached by Justin Correia, whose sister, Maritza Correia, embarked on her childhood training at BSAC as well.

Hess reportedly on Dec. 2, also at the nationals, swam the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.10, which broke Correia's Girls' 13-14 record.

To qualify for the Olympic trials, Hess on Dec. 3 swam the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:17.96, surpassing the cutoff by .06.
