Friday Night Lights Burn Bright For 3 Local Teams

Brandon, Bloomingdale, Strawberry Crest win; Durant and Newsome lose by one; Plant City and Riverview fall short; Spoto remains winless.

Friday night lights burned bright for Eastern Hillsborough County teams, with Brandon, Bloomingdale and Strawberry Crest scoring a collective 67 points in their Oct. 4 wins. Together, the three teams forfeited 43 points.

Undefeated Armwood had a bye while winless Spoto came up short again, losing its sixth game of the season to Jesuit (49-16). 

Also on the losing end were Durant, Newsome, Plant City and Riverview, whose collective 50 points were no match against their opponents' grand total of 98.

Newsome fell by one to Wharton (21-20) while Durant fell by one to Strawberry Crest (11-10). East Bay defeated Plant City in overtime (19-13). Plant decidedly beat Riverview (47-7).

Meanwhile, the Brandon Eagles evened things up this season, with its third win against three losses. Before a homecoming crowd at McLane Stadium, the Eagles defeated the winless Middleton Tigers, 32-12.

Bloomingdale scored its third win of the season, against two losses, with a 24-21 victory over Alonso.
