Hawks Vs. Cougars: A Durant-Armwood Football Showdown

Powerhouse football is on tap this weekend, with game time set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Lyle Flagg Stadium at Armwood High in Seffner.

The Durant High School Cougars, coming off an undefeated 2012 football season, host the Armwood High School Hawks in Plant City on Friday, Aug. 30. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Armwood faces the Cougars, who are 0-0 in district play and 1-0 overall. The Cougars' national ranking is 510; its state ranking, 37, according to MaxPreps.com. In preseason play, the Cougars defeated Oak Ridge 42-27, on Friday, Aug. 23.

Under head coach Michael Gottman last year the Cougars had a season to remember; they went undefeated until the second round of Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) playoffs, bowing to the Newsome Wolves, 21-14, at the Ron Frost Stadium in Plant City.

The Hawks (0-0 in league play and 1-0 overall) are ranked 1,267 in the nation and 93 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. Head coach Sean Callahan, on Sept. 21, 2012, registered his 200th victory as head coach of the Hawks in a 49-0 win against the Leto High Falcons.

The Hawks at home Aug. 23 registered a decisive, non-conference, preseason game victory against Cooper City. Final score: 44-7.

Armwood High School is at 12000 U.S. Highway 92 in Seffner.
