Center Place Registering Kids for Summer Workshops

The nonprofit fine arts center is offering classes for kids of all ages.

Wondering what to do with the kids this summer?

Consider registering them for summer art workshops at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon.

According to the nonprofit fine arts center's executive director, Dawn Galia, Center Place will be offering classes throughout the summer for every age and interest.

Classes include painting, pottery, etiquette, Mad Science, paper sculptures, recycled art, space art, photography and comics.

Classes range in price from $35 to $135. And, due to the popularity of the summer art workshops, all classes require advance registration and payment.

Cool new workshops being offered this summer include:

  • Make a Clay Whistle with Jennie Sikora-Muehl. This workshop takes place Wednesday July 10 and 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. The cost is $25 for Center Place members and $35 for nonmembers.
  • Mad Science of Tampa Bay will offer a series of classes on Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 4 to 5 p.m. for children in grades one to five. Children will do taste experiments, investigate magnets, use a multi-effects processor to explore sound waves and create slime. The cost for all four workshops is $60 for members and $70 for nonmembers.
  • Bricks 4 Kidz, taught by Christiana Moseley, will be held July 15-19 for ages 5 to 8 and July 22-26 for ages 9 to 13. Inspired by NASA and Star WarsTM, campers age 5 to 8 will learn about real-life space exploration and build models with LEGOs related to the NASA space program. In addition, the day includes LEGO-Star WarsTM-themed models, video games, group games and challenges. The older campers will explore the game Minecraft, which uses blocks to build motorized models. The cost of the camps, which run from 9:30 a.m. to noon, is $125 for members, $135 for nonmembers.
