Top School Flicks To Rent

With August fast approaching, and stores stocked to the brim with school supplies, it won't be long before students take their first steps into Hillsborough County schools for the first day of classes, scheduled for Aug. 21.

To help fill those lazy summer nights in anticipation, here's two lists of top feature films about shcool and education. The first list is compiled from a call-out on Facebook asking Greater Brandon friends to offer their top choices.

Early responses to that post are reflected in the chart below, listed in chronological order. (For the record, the "Facebook Friends" selections that received the most nods were Mr. Holland's Opus and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.)

The chart also includes movies determined from an Internet search for "best school movies" conducted for a . We focused on each of the site’s Top 10 contenders in merging the findings from Blog at BOU, Complex, Amazon, AMC Filmsite, and Newsweek (from which we used the entire list of 13 picks).

Thirteen of the selections from Facebook friends matched selections determined from the Internet search. (For the record, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Breakfast Club each appeared among the top 10 selections for four of the five sites noted above.)
