Brandon Business and USF Sorority Host Carnival for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

A Touch of Wellness owner Scott Robinson and members of the Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority at the University of South Florida host the April 9 Fight for Cancer Carnival.

At A Touch of Wellness on Oakfield Drive in Brandon, owner Scott Robinson put into practice — in a carnival setting — his belief that with good fortune comes the responsibility to step up to the plate to help lessen the ills of others.

Music, food and giving back were all part of the festivities April 9 when Robinson, with volunteers from the Beta Gamma Chapter of the Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority at the University of South Florida, hosted the "Fight For Cancer Carnival" at , a massage and rehabilitation center.

Robinson said the family friendly event, featuring dancers from the , raised funds to benefit the internationally recognized St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is known for its  pioneering research and care in pediatric cancer.

"We are so fortunate that we just feel like we need to give back,” Robinson said. "I figured to do this properly we needed to involve the community and get help."

That's where Alicia Lopez, of Lambda Theta Alpha, stepped in, helping to organize the event that also featured food, bounce houses, games, a dunk tank and music spun by DJ Lanz and DJ Silence.

The sorority already supports St. Jude as its national philanthropy so it seemed natural Lopez would suggest the research hospital as the beneficiary for the day's events.

"I wrote up a proposal and presented it to my sorority and they agreed right away,” Lopez said. "They all wanted to help."
