Brandon To Celebrate Pioneers at Community Roundtable Dinner

The Community Affairs Dinner is Feb. 21 at Center Place. Alice B. Tompkins, Maureen Krzanowksi Scholarship and Non-Profit of the Year award recipients will be announced. Tickets on sale through Feb. 15.

 

There's still time to get tickets for the annual Community Affairs Dinner, sponsored by the Community Roundtable.

The nonprofit Community Roundtable has invited several members of Brandon's pioneering families to speak at this year's dinner.

According to Janine Nickerson, her research shows this is "the 155th anniversary of John and Martha Brandon's arrival to this area."

"The town was named for them a few years later," added Nickerson, the group's vice president.

Among those invited to speak are Mike Brandon, John Brandon's great-grandson; Helen Mulrennan Young; Judy Darsey of the King family; Claire Bryan Simmons; Dick Stowers, a lifelong resident and founder of Stowers Funeral Home; and Paul Dinnis, founder of The Brandon News.

At each year's dinner, the newly named recipient is named, as well at the Non-Profit of the Year recipient. Also be celebrated, this year's winner of the Maureen Krzanowski Scholarship, named posthumously for a long-time roundtable member.

The dinner will be held at the in Brandon. The center shares space with the Brandon Regional Library in the Sandy Rodriguez Center, at 619 Vonderburg Drive.
