Nativity's Taste of 2012 in Brandon Tonight (Sept. 22)

Looking for a great place to take the family to dinner tonight? Dining alone, but not sure where to go? Drive no farther than the Nativity Catholic Church and school at 705 East Brandon Blvd., where the Taste of 2012 is set to run from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22.

The annual Nativity food fest features menu items from restaurants throughout the Greater Brandon area (see chart below).

“Everything. I liked everything,” said Doug Taggerty, a guest at last year's event, who said he had who tasted just about every menu sample offered at the event. “I’m in pain right now," he said good-naturedly, rubbing his stomach, "but it’s a good pain.”

Moreover, “I love supporting the Nativity Food Bank and food pantry,” Taggerty added. “It supports not just our community but churches throughout the area that minister to the poor.”

The Nativity Food Bank in Dover works with about 75 different food pantries and ministries, including the food pantry at Nativity, to help feed people in need.

That pantry is open every Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., for people in need with residences in the Brandon ZIP codes 33510 and 33511 and the Valrico ZIP codes 33594 and 33596.

People in need who show proof of residency and a photo identification are welcome to receive food once a week for three months. To receive additional aid they must show as well proof of financial need.

In addition to the food and drink offerings at Taste of 2012, there will be raffle drawings for gift baskets and prizes.

Tickets cost $12 at the door, and $5 for children ages 4 to 8. Children age 3 and younger will be adimitted for free. All proceeds benefit the Nativity Outreach Food Pantry & Food Bank.
