Reader's Report: Denizens of the Deep Fundraiser at Rotary's Camp Florida

The Brandon '86 Rotary Club hosted its 19th Annual Denizens of the Deep Southern Fish Fry at Rotary's Camp Florida earlier this month. This report is filed by Rotarian Bob Davis.

The following report was submitted by Bob Davis, a member of the Brandon '86 Rotary Club, about the group's major fall fundraiser.

______________

The Brandon '86 Rotary Club hosted its 19th Annual Denizens of the Deep Southern Fish Fry on Nov. 5 at Rotary's Camp Florida.

Blessed by a beautiful fall day, nearly 700 people gathered to enjoy all-you-can-eat portions of fish, shrimp, hush puppies, Uncle John's Pride sausage, beer, tea, soda and much more.

The crowd raved at the musical skills of multi-talented enteratiner Reggie Dockens, while the children played on the Camp Florida playground, huge bouncy slide and two-story bouncy castle.

Brandon '86 Rotary Club member Ron Shillady coordinated this year's event.

"Denizens of the Deep ranks as one of Brandon's largest charitable fundraisers and provides people in the Brandon community an opportunity to have a great day spending time together with family and friends," Shillady said.

Local business sponsors and volunteers from recipient charities, Armwood and Durant high school Interact clubs, Boy Scout Troop 1986 and many others pitched in to help raise more than $20,000.

All money raised at the event is dispersed to Brandon-area charities.

Hey Linda: Thank you for alerting the community about this really fantastic weekend event. Perhaps people will see it coming up next year and decided to attend. I really don't know a person that has attended in the past that didn't want to return. Ted

Indeed, it is a great event, with an amazing playground for kids and lake vista for all. Keep us posted on future endeavors!

Our guests had a wonderful time-from the music to the food, to the childdrens events, to the camp site itself-a good time was indeed enjoyed by all. Most of all our charities will receive a goodly amount of dollars-in the neighborhood 0f $19,000. Thank you Linda for your coverage of this important event. Ron Shillady Brandon '86
