Church Plans for Haitian Earthquake Remembrance

The First United Methodist Church of Seffner seeks a Dec. 3 commitment from Greater Brandon residents and churches to help support a Jan. 12 prayer breakfast and evening memorial service to help support and remember those affected by the Haitian earthquak

The anniversary of the Haitian earthquake of 2010 will not be forgotten by the parishioners of First United Methodist Church of Brandon, who are planning for a fundraising remembrance of the devastating Jan. 12 event.

“We are extending a special invitation to local leaders, church leaders and all those who have the desire to come pray for the deliverance and rebuilding of Haiti,” said Maggie Dulcio, in an announcement for the remembrance.

Noting that the Haitian people “are resilient, they are still standing,” Dulcio adds that “the Haitian community in the Tampa Bay area invites you to join us as we remember that day and look forward to the future.”

Toward that end, and in partnerships with Radio Lavi and area churches and organizations, the United Methodist church’s congregation will host a 9 a.m. prayer breakfast on Jan. 12 and an evening memorial service at 6 p.m.

Both events will be at the church, at  1310 South Kingsway Road in Seffner.

The cost of the breakfast is a contribution of $35 per individual and $135 for a group of four attendees. Attendees are asked to reserve a spot by Dec. 3 so that their names can be included in a commemorative memory book that will be distributed at the event.

Displays of Haitian culture will be on display. Earthquake survivors and representatives from organizations helping to rebuild Haiti will share their stories.
