GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 17-19

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. Here's a list of fun things to do in the Brandon area.

Cruise for Kids

The Tampa Chapter of Credit Unions's ninth annual Credit Union Cruise for Kids Motorcycle Poker Run will take place Sunday, May 19. The poker run registration will begin at 10 a.m. at Brandon Harley Davidson on State Road 60 in Brandon, with Uncle Mike’s Smokehouse serving breakfast at 9 a.m. From there the ride will stop at Tampa Harley Davidson, Jim’s Harley Davidson in St. Pete and then on to the motorsports-themed restaurant at Quaker Steak and Lube in Pinellas Park where participants will draw their final two playing cards and join in the party featuring The Stormbringer Band, a 50/50 raffle, dozens of door prize baskets, emcee Party Patti, a Born To Ride motorcycle bike show and a trophy presentation for the motorcycle club with the most rider participants.

Crawfish Festival

The FishHawk-Riverview Rotary Club will present its third annual Crawfish Festival in Park Square in FishHawk Ranch May 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will feature more than 2,500 pounds of steamed crawfish fresh from Louisiana, chicken and sausage gumbo, red beans and rice, crawfish etouffee, hot dogs and hamburgers, and nachos. It addition, there will be entertainment and exhibits by local businesses.

'Brighton Beach Memoirs' on Stage

The Valrico Village Players will present "Brighton Beach Memoirs" Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18 at 7 p.m. at the James McCabe Theater, 506 5th St., Valrico. Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs" is a comedy reflecting Simon's teenage years growing up in a Jewish family in Brighton Beach.

Spring Coffee

The Brandon Foundation will host its sixth annual Spring Coffee Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Bells Shoals Baptist Church,2102 Bell Shoals Rd., in Brandon. This annual event is held to promote the awareness of the foundation and to raise funds for the Foundation Angel program. The celebrity emcee will be Al Ruechel, senior anchor at Bay News 9.

Attendees will enjoy brunch, entertainment, a silent auction, and testimonials from Angel family recipients. Guest admission is a $25 gift card to be used to assist families who are experiencing life-threatenin​g illnesses or catastrophic events.

Benefit Garage Sale

The Senior Adult Bible Study Class of Bell Shoals Baptist Church will hold a garage sale on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 704 Tomahawk Trail in the Indian Hills subdivision off Bell Shoals Road. Coffee and donuts will be sold in the morning and lunch items starting at 10:30 a.m. The money raised will send needy children to summer camp.

Burlesque Night

Fox & Hounds British Pub, 229 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, will host Burlesque Night featuring the Le Teaze burlesque troupe Saturday, May 18 at 10 and 11 p.m.

No Kid Hungry Bake Sale

D'Amico Hair Lounge, 1923 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, will host a bake sale to benefit Share Our Strength, a nonprofit to help feed hungry children, Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Super-Charged Saturday Nights

Tres Amigos Cantina, 2025 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, will host Super-Charged Saturday Nights every third Saturday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. The event features a cruise-in and car show, music with disc jockey Ed Cullins, a 50/50 drawing, awards for the best cars and a free margarita with registration.

Trivia Night

Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 E. Adamo Dr., Tampa, hosts a Trivia Night each Sunday at 6 p.m.

Celebrity Chef at Rolling Pin

The Brandon Foundation and Rolling Pin Kitchen Emporium, 2080 Badlands Dr., Brandon, have partnered to bring celebrity chefs to Rolling Pin to benefit the foundation. On Friday, May 17 at 6:15 p.m., Rolling Pin will welcome Chef Lindsay Autry, a former contestant on the "Top Chef" TV show. Autry will offer cooking tips and prepare a meal.
