Dinner And Show

Celebrating the opening night of Our Town by Thornton Wilder, the Village Players of Valrico will host a dinner and show Friday, Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the James McCabe Theater, 506 Fifth St., Valrico. The dinner will feature an All-American Picnic-Style boxed dinner by Chick-Fil-A of Lake Brandon Village, including a Chick-Fil-A sandwich, chips, slaw and a large chocolate chunk cookie with unlimited popcorn and your choice of sweet tea or old-fashioned lemonade. For reservations, call 813-643-8292.

The show will continue Saturday, Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. General admission is $14 or $12 for seniors, students and military.

End-of-Summer Barbecue

The GFWC Brandon Junior Woman's Club will host an end-of-summer barbecue Saturday, Aug. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the BJWC Clubhouse, 129 N. Moon Ave., Brandon. The barbecue will include a chicken or pork sandwich, macaroni salad, baked beans and soft drinks or bottled water for $8. Proceeds will go to Steppin' Stone Farm.

Back-To-School Fair

A Back-to-School Fair will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa. For $5, children can prepare to go back to school with tips on health, wellness and safety, games, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon artists, informative speakers, karaoke and workshops. The first 150 kids get a free goody bag filled with school supplies.

Rock On For First Responders

Local rock groups Scream Machine and Pitbull Toddler are joining forces with Cox Media to present a First Responders Tribute. The benefit concert will take place Friday, Aug. 9 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 5223 N. Orient Rd., Tampa. The donation to attend is $10 and proceeds from the concert will go to first responder charities including the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation and the Hillsborough Firefighters Benevolent Relief Fund.

Singer/Songwriter On Stage

Singer/songwriter and Riverview High School graduate Melissa Brethauer will perform in concert Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Nativity Catholic Church Youth Center, 705 E. Brandon Blvd. in Brandon. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at www.nativitysummerconcert.eventbrite.com.

Brethauer plays guitar and piano. She released her debut CD, “Waiting,” in late 2009. She has performed at songwriting festivals in Nashville and in Las Vegas. She lives in Atlanta where she is currently working on her second CD.

Charity Thrift Sale

The Emergency Care Help Organization, 507 N. Parsons Ave., Brandon, will host a charity thrift sale Saturday, Aug. 10 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
