The freshmen enrolled at Brandon High School for the 2010-11 school year are scheduled to graduate in the year the school celebrates its 100th anniversary. Actually, it was the Brandon School, from which the high school traces its roots, that opened in 1914 as the area's only school for students in grades one through eight. That school was housed on what is today the McLane Middle School campus. McLane's second of two original towers opened in 1919, which extended the Brandon School's offerings through grade 12. The first four Brandon High School graduates received their diplomas in 1923.

Today, McLane is a school for grades six through eight and Brandon High is on Victoria Rd., where it first opened in 1972. Its additions were built n 1975, 1979 and 2007. The school's colors are maroon and white; its mascot, the Eagle. The school's motto: "Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle." The school that mirrored the town's breakneck growth, growing large enough to warrant three sessions of students daily, has since seen the addition of seven high schools in the Greater Brandon area and its environs (Armwood, Bloomingdale, Durant, Riverview, Durant, Spoto and Strawberry Crest). Today Brandon High is described as a "small learning community" with career academies that expand each year.

History is rich and deep at Brandon, which sports a wrestling team that held what is considered a world-record streak; the team on January 25, 2007 snapped that streak with its first loss in 34 years. Russ Cozart's team, however, still holds the record for consecutive state championships. The 2010-11 team is competing for the school's eleventh straight state championship title.

Despite its age, Brandon High has had a relatively small number of principals. Serving in that position, from the early days on the McLane campus, were E.F. McLane, James Randall, Lyle Flagg, Orlan Briant, Linwood Nelson, Patrick Gregory, Rebecca Anderson, Denny Oest and Leslie Granich. The current principal is Carl Green.

The school has an alumni association deeply rooted in the school's history. The Brandon High School Alumni Association meets monthly in the school cafeteria and annually holds a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon and an induction ceremony into the alumni association's Hall of Fame.
