The threat of wild boars, coyotes and feral hogs, such as those spotted in the Greater Brandon area, have caught the eye of Hillsborough County Commissioners, who are expected to consider an action plan of protection proposed by Commissioner Ken Hagan.
Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan is set to ask his colleagues today, Feb. 6, to consider ways to protect residents and property from “potentially dangerous” wild animals that have been spotted in densely populated areas. Recent such incidents include Feral hogs in FishHawk, boars roaming New Tampa parking lots and coyotes making their presence known in Carrollwood. In Northdale, a dog goes face-fo-face with a boar and loses its life. Hagan intends to ask county staff to look into the “state of the situation” when commissioners meet at the Fred B. The dog known as "Phoebe the Miracle Dog" is scheduled to be in attendance Dec. 15 at Hillsborough County Animal Services in the Greater Brandon area of Tampa for a Santa photo shoot for local pets. "Santa Photos With Phoebe" is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the shelter at 440 North Falkenburg Road, in the Greater Brandon area of Tampa. Santa will be in attendance with Phoebe, who survived being buried alive and shot, in a local case of severe animal cruelty and abuse. At the Fred B. Karl County Center on Oct. 9, the newly named Animal Services Task Force will determine ways to reduce the number of dogs and cats killed at the Hillsborough County Animal Services shelter on Falkenburg Road in Greater Brandon.
Charged with finding ways to reduce the number of animals euthanized at the Hillsborough County animal shelter in Greater Brandon, the newly created Animal Services Task Force will hold its first meeting Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Fred B. Karl County Center in Tampa, at 601 Eas Kennedy Blvd., in conference rooms A and B on the 26th floor. The Hillsborough Animal Health Foundation (HAHF) and the Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society (HCVMS) have announced a four-pronged program aimed to lower the county's euthanasia rate for unwanted pets. The so-called AWAKE! program is an acronym that encompasses the program's four elements: Animal Welfare, Adoption, Kids and Education. “As Hillsborough County continues to improve its animal control policies, focus on the adoption of pets to good homes is vital,” said Don Thompson, executive director of HAHF and owner of the Veterinary Center at FishHawk. “The overpopulation of pets will not be solved overnight, and this public service announcement is designed to help increase adoption rates in Hillsborough County.” The public-…
