Armwood Football: Hawks Face Largo in Regional Quarterfinals (Nov. 16)

The Armwood Hawks face the Largo Packers in Largo for the opening game of the 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) football playoffs. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

  The Armwood Hawks begin their quest for a state crown with their Class 6A-Region 2 quarterfinal game tonight, Nov. 16, against the undefeated Largo Packers. Game time in Largo for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional quarterfinal contest is 7:30 p.m. The Largo Packers (11-0 overall, 5-0 in league play) are ranked 105 in the nation and sixth in the state, according to MaxPreps.com.  Meanwhile, the Hawks (7-3 overall, 5-1 in league play) are ranked 761 in the nation and 62 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. Armwood Football: Hawks Fall to Plant Panthers in Overtime

The clash of the titans came up a victory for the Plant High Panthers, who handed the Armwood Hawks their third defeat of the season, with a 20-19 win in overtime.

  The Armwood Hawks lost in overtime Oct. 26 to their perennial rivals, the Plant High Panthers, in a 1-point game (19-20) that puts the Hawks at 6-3 for the season and the Panthers at 7-1. In league play, the Panthers are 2-1; the Hawks, 4-1. Armwood last year beat the Panthers, 21-0, before Plant went on to win the Class 8A state title. The Hawks won the state Class 6A championship game, but in June that title was stripped after a Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) ruling concerning ineligible players. The Panthers this season also beat Jesuit (18-0), Jefferson (52-20), Tampa Bay Tech (21-14), Wharton (27-7), Brandon (55-0) and Alonso (22-12). Armwood Hawks Face Titans on Tampa Bay Tech Turf in Tampa

Game time Sept. 14 is 7:30 p.m. for the Armwood Hawks, as they travel to face the Tampa Bay Tech Titans in Tampa.

  The Armwood Hawks, following last week's 36-28 loss against the American Heritage (Plantation) Stallions, take to the field tonight in Tampa against the Tampa Bay Tech Titans. The Brandon Eagles will be playing at home against Freedom High. Armwood faces the Titans, who are 0-0 in league play and 2-0 overall. The team's national ranking is 755; its state ranking, 62, according to MaxPreps.com. The Titans reportedly moved up 58 spots on the national ranking and nine on the state ranking. Meanwhile, the Hawks, 1-1 overall, and 0-0 in league play, dropped 22 spots in the national ranking and three in the state's. Armwood Hawks Score Preseason Win Over Gibbs, Get Set for Brandon

What time is the next Armwood High School football game? Will the team be playing at home, or away? Who's the next opponent? Check out the schedule here and see how the Armwood High Hawks fared Aug. 24 in its preseason game against Gibbs.

  The Armwood Hawks, on the field for the first time following FHSAA action this summer that stripped the team of its 2011 state title, got off to a good start with a two-quarter, 35-0 preseason win at home against Gibbs, at the Lyle Flagg Field in Seffner. Because of rain-soaked fields, two games were played at the Lyle Flagg field that night. Preceding the Armwood-Gibbs matchup, Tampa Bay Tech defeated Jefferson 27-7, also in a two-quarter game. Varisty Football Game-Site Changes Due to Rain-Soaked Fields

Welcome back to a season of high school football, with games tonight showcasing how local teams are shaping up. But check before you go, rain-soaked fields have led to these varsity football game site changes.

  Eight preseason varsity football games scheduled for play tonight, Aug. 24, at 7:30 p.m., have been relocated because of rain-soaked fields. For Greater Brandon area residents, that means new "home" fields for the Armwood, Newsome, Spoto, Strawberry Crest and Riverview games. Armwood in particular has been affected by the field change, with two games scheduled for play on the Lyle Flagg Field at Armwood in Seffner. Jefferson versus Tampa Bay Tech kicks off at Armwood at 7:30 p.m. After playing only one half of the game, the Armwood Hawks will take to the field to play one half of its scheduled matchup against Gibbs. Armwood Flies Past Hillsborough in Class 6A Region Semifinal Victory

The Armwood High School Hawks advance in the football playoffs with a FHSAA Class 6A region semifinal victory over the Hillsborough High Terriers. Next up: Armwood versus Gainesville.

A solid ground game and brutally effective defense propelled host Armwood past Hillsborough, 23-0, for the Florida High School Athletic Association’s Class 6A semifinal victory Friday, Nov. 25 at Lyle Flagg Stadium. The Hawks didn’t wait long to get the scoring under way as Alvin Bailey returned a punt 72 yards with his first touch of the ball. The Hawks would add a 47-yard field goal from Nick Feely before the half, but otherwise struggled to get going. "We pushed them hard in the first half but they didn't break, which is the sign of a good team," Hawks head coach Sean Callahan said.
