Children Artists Sought for Center Place Show

The first annual Community Children's Art Show is planned for July at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon.

  For years the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association has hosted monthly art exhibits, including one featuring the work of children in Hillsborough County schools. This year, for the first time, an art show featuring the work of children from the community at large has been added to the mix. Entries for the Community Children's Art Show in the Mook Art Gallery at Center Place are being accepted June 24-28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Center Place, which shares space with the Brandon Regional Library in the Sandy Rodriguez Center, at 619 Vonderburg Drive. The art show is scheduled for the month of July with an artist reception scheduled for July 11 at 6 p.m. Awards will be presented, starting at 6:30 p.m., in three age categories (4-6, 7…

More Parking at the Brandon Regional Library and Center Place?

Parking lot improvements are under way at the Sandy Rodriguez Center on Vonderburg Drive, which houses both the Brandon Regional Library and the Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association.

  Major improvements have been under construction at the front parking lot to the Sandy Rodriguez Center in Brandon, which houses both the Brandon Regional Library and the Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association. The library ranks fourth in monthly circulation of materials and third in the number of visits among all branches of the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System. 'Journey' Exhibit at Center Place Motivates Artist Battling Cancer

Born in Puerto Rico, Diamari Christensen said her first exhibit in the United States, at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon, came as a blessing as she battles cancer. "Journey" is on display in the Mook Gallery through Dec. 31.

Diamari Christensen's journey through life and in art hasn't been easy. As the 40-year old native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, prepares to conclude her first art exhibit in the United States, on display in December at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon, she is hopeful for the future. Despite her battles with cervical cancer, a weakened immune system and health complications that linger from a pregnancy that threatened her life nearly a decade ago, Christensen is looking forward to the future and what it holds for her painting career. Brandon Lights Up for the Holidays

The 28th Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree at Center Place brought residents and groups together to showcase talent from Kim Hall's, Music Showcase, Leonard's Academy, Brandon Ballet, Bloomingdale High and Tampa Bay Family Theater.

Brandon showed up in numbers to celebrate the 28th annual lighting of the Christmas Tree at Center Place. True to expectations, it was a night of celebration, merriment and tradition The performances opened with Leonard's Academy of Dance, performing an interpretive number to the song, "Mary Did You Know?" The Dec. 7 event itself opened with a colorguard presentation by Boy Scout Troop 110, under scoutmaster Steve Saunders. It ended with the lighting of the Christmas tree in the lake between Parsons Avenue and the Sandy Rodriguez Center on Vonderburg Drive, which houses as well the Brandon Regional Library.
