Following the post-game huddle Nov. 9, head coach Mike Gottman of the Durant High School Cougars took a moment to reflect on the shutout win that propels his team into the record books. "With four minutes left to go in the game I thought, 'We did it,' " Gottman said. "We're going to win this football game." In his 10th year as head coach, Gottman's team went 10-0, capped with the team's fourth shutout victory of the season, a 31-0 win over the King High School Lions. "It's hard to explain," Gottman said, about what he was feeling in the aftermath of the school's record-breaking triumph. The undefeated Durant High School Cougars, under head coach Mike Gottman, beat the East Bay Indians on Oct. 26 to make it an 8-0 season. The game was played on East Bay's turf in Gibsonton.
Durant's magical football season continued last night, Oct. 26, with a 28-3 win against East Bay, making it eight wins for the undefeated Cougars, which is reported to be the school's best season record ever. The Durant Cougars, following last week's shutout win against Brandon (36-0), added their fourth win to an undefeated season with a fourth-quarter touchdown on the home turf of the Wharton Wildcats on Sept. 28.
