Cruise for Kids Motorcyle Run Starts Today in Brandon

The 2013 Cruise for Kids Motorcycle Run kicks off today, May 19, in Brandon, at the Brandon Haley Davidson on State Road 60, with Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill set to serve a pre-registration breakfast.

  A busy weekend in the Greater Brandon area is wrapping up, with the ninth annual Cruise for Kids Motorcyle Poker Run, with registration at Brandon Harley Davidson on State Road 60 in Brandon. ‘Madagascar Live’ Show Debuts at Busch Gardens

If you love the movie “Madagascar” and its sequels, then Busch Gardens has a show for you. Its premier continues today, May 19, with dance parties, character meet-and-greets and Jack Hanna.

  Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo and King Julien take a vacation adventure at Busch Gardens in the 20-minute musical stage show, Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation, which debuts on the Stanleyville Theater on May 18 and 19. “We are thrilled to partner with DreamWorks Animation to bring the hugely popular Madagascar characters to Busch Gardens,” said Jim Dean, park president, in a press release. “… This show is certain to have families engaged and amused and will round out the triple play of amazing shows, thrilling rides and unique animal encounters that our park delivers.” To celebrate the start of the show, the park will host a party at Stanleyville Theater May 18 and 19 with on-the-hour dancing and meet-and-greets with the characters…

Get a Taste of Brandon at Florida State Fairgrounds Today (May 16)

Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds today, May 16. The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce takes a retrospective approach to promoting the 2013 offering.

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce has been busy promoting its signature event, which this year celebrates its 25th year. The Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon is scheduled for today, May 16, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Recognizing the quarter-century milestone, chamber officials have beeen posting blogs on its Web site , including one that takes a look back at the "big hair" and "shoulder pads" that were all the rage when the event in 1989 "welcomed its very first guests through the doors of the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel. Plant City Community Choir Marks 5 Years

A retrospective concert is planned June 1 at Eastside Baptist Church for the Plant City Community Choir, which features singers and performances from and for people living in Brandon, Lakeland, Plant City and Valrico.

  Help commemorate the success of a "vocal experiment" that five years ago launched with 12 members and an inaugural concert at The Church on the Rock in Plant City, with a June 1 concert planned in Plant City. Since its start in 2008 the Plant City Community Choir has performed 10 local concerts and has appeared in seven performances of the Candlelight Processional and Massed Choir in Orlando, at the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney's World Resort. The Plant City Community Choir draws members and audiences from Brandon, Lakeland, Plant City and Valrico. Children Artists Sought for Center Place Show

The first annual Community Children's Art Show is planned for July at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association in Brandon.

  For years the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association has hosted monthly art exhibits, including one featuring the work of children in Hillsborough County schools. This year, for the first time, an art show featuring the work of children from the community at large has been added to the mix. Entries for the Community Children's Art Show in the Mook Art Gallery at Center Place are being accepted June 24-28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Center Place, which shares space with the Brandon Regional Library in the Sandy Rodriguez Center, at 619 Vonderburg Drive. These rubber duckies are fire-breathing hot and they're being sold this year in memory of cancer fighters Justin Hancock and Dan Witt, who served as deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

  Think Ken-Ducky Derby, Miles for Moffitt and the service of cancer victims Justin Hancock and Dan Witt and you've got all you need to know about why the rubber duckies on sale at O'Brien's Irish Pub and Family Restaurant in Brandon and other participating establishments are fire-breathing hot. "For anyone who has been touched by cancer as I have, this is the best way that I have found to give cancer a big sucker-punch in the face," said O'Brien's co-owner "Captain" Sean Rice. Village Players To Stage 'Brighton Beach Memoirs'

Next up for the Village Players at the James McCabe Theater in Valrico is the spring production of Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs."

  The Village Players community theater troupe returns to the stage with the May 2013 production of Neil Simon's "Brighton Beach Memoirs." On stage at the James McCabe Theater in Valrico, directed by Oliver Sprague, the comedy show dates are May 17-18, 23-25 and 30-31. Also, June 1. Doors open 7:30 p.m.; curtain time is 8 p.m. Curtain for the Sunday, May 25 matinee is 3 p.m.; doors open at 2:30 p.m. The theatre is at 506 Fifth Street, north of State Road 60. Brandon Talent Set to Perform at 2013 Spring Jubilee

The 12th annual Spring Jubilee is set to run April 11 to 14 on the grounds of St. Stephen Catholic School in Riverview.

  The 12th annual Spring Jubilee opens today, April 11, at the St. Stephen Catholic School in Riverivew, at 10424 St. Stephen Circle, west of Bell Shoals Road and FishHawk Boulevard. Included in the lineup for the four-day festival are performers from Mann and Mulrennan middle schools in Brandon and Valrico, respectively, and from Riverview High School. Also, from Judy's Dance Academy in Valrico and Music Showcase in Brandon. (For a full entertainment lineup, see chart below). St. Stephen, Edge and Life Teen variety shows are included in the first-day lineup of performers. Also at the Spring Jubilee: carnival rides, food, activities and free entertainment.
