Get a Taste of Brandon at Florida State Fairgrounds Today (May 16)

Celebrating its 25th year, the Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon returns to the Florida State Fairgrounds today, May 16. The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce takes a retrospective approach to promoting the 2013 offering.

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce has been busy promoting its signature event, which this year celebrates its 25th year. The Brandon Business Expo and Taste of Brandon is scheduled for today, May 16, at the Florida State Fairgrounds, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Recognizing the quarter-century milestone, chamber officials have beeen posting blogs on its Web site , including one that takes a look back at the "big hair" and "shoulder pads" that were all the rage when the event in 1989 "welcomed its very first guests through the doors of the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel. Lunch for a Cause at Genghis Grill and Help Rotary's Camp Florida

Eat today, Feb. 6, at the Genghis Grill in Brandon, mention the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's "Leadership Brandon" effort to help Rotary's Camp Florida, and a portion of your check will be sent as a donation.

  The Genghis Grill in Brandon is set to serve for a cause today, Feb. 6, as a fundraiser for the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Brandon program, which this year aims to help beautify Rotary's Camp Florida. "The purpose of the fundraiser is to help our class complete a beautification and improvement project at Rotary's Camp Florida," reads a Facebook notice posted about the event. Chamber Chair Gives Brandon Outlook, Sees 'A Brighter Tomorrow'

Darren Dennington is the newly named chairman of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's board of directors. At the group's 2013 annual membership dinner, he gave his accounting of the 2013 state of affairs.

  After living by the adage, "just hang in there," Darren Dennington is ready to "raise the bar" — again. At the 2013 annual membership dinner of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, the newly installed chairman of the group's board of directors paid homage to the past as he put forth his views of the post-meltdown economy. About 12 years ago, he noted, at a chamber meeting, then chair George May urged the group to "raise the bar." "Those were great words that challenged the group to to do our very best," Dennington added. "Over the next few years we pushed and pushed that bar as high as we could." Health Fair Sponsors Sought for Brandon Chamber Event

The annual health fair sponsored by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce offers health screenings, demonstrations and grand-prize drawings for area residents.

  The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's health fair task force seeks title, platinum and gold sponsors for its annual health fair, which this year is scheduled for March 2 at the Campo Family YMCA in Valrico. The annual event draws a huge crowd of Greater Brandon area residents seeking to get free health screenings and information from local vendors, doctors, hospitals, schools, businesses and services. Rich Glorioso Receives Brandon Community Leadership Award

Earl Lennard, a former recipient of the Greater Brandon Community Leadership Award, was at The Regent on Feb. 1 to recognize this year's recipient, Rich Glorioso, at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's annual membership dinner.

  Rich Glorioso is the newly named recipient of the Greater Brandon Community Leadership Award, given annually by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce at its membership dinner. "It's an honor, it's a real honor," Glorioso said, in an interview minutes before Earl Lennard, a past recipient of the award, presented the former state representative with this year's honor. "When I found out I was getting the award I was humbled," Glorioso added. "I wasn't even planning on coming to the dinner. My wife and I were in St. Louis, watching the birth of our newest grandson, Daniel Jacob Glorioso." Brandon Chamber Kicks Off 2013 in a Grand Way at The Regent

The annual membership dinner for the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce was held Feb. 1 at The Regent in Riverview.

  Some 400 members and guests of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce met Friday, Feb. 1, at The Regent in Riverview, where Darren Dennington took the gavel as this year's chairman of the business networking group. Also announced at this year's dinner were the newly named recipients of the annual Key Citizen of the Year and Greater Brandon Community Leadership awards. Last year's honorees, Tammy Holmberg and Earl Lennard, respectively, announced this year's recipients, Susan Saunders and Rich Glorioso, respectively. The newly named Key Citizen of the Year was announced by the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce at its 2013 annual membership dinner Feb. 1 at The Regent.

  It gave last year's Key Citizen of the Year great pleasure to announce this year's honoree, as the person deemed most deserving to stand out as a testament to Brandon's spirit of giving. That was the word from Tammy Holmberg, moments before she announced Susan Saunders as the newly named recipient of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's Key Citizen of the Year award. Saunders was recognized for her many years of volunteer work with the chamber, the Brandon Outreach Clinic and the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association, for which she served as a past president.
