Brandon Chamber Readies for Annual Dinner

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, at The Regent in Riverview, is set to host its 2013 annual membership dinner this week.

  The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce is getting set to host its annual membership dinner, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1, starting with cocktails at 6:15 p.m. followed by dinner an hour later. The event, as it was last year, will be held at The Regent in the Greater Brandon area of Riverview, in the southwest corner of the Winthrop community, at The Regent, at 6437 Watson Road. "The dinner will feature the traditional exchange of the gavel," from this year's chairman to the incoming chairman. Also, the presentation of coveted community awards, including the Community Leadership Award, the Key Citizen of the Year award, the Chairman's Award and Ambassador of the Year award. Report: Logo Fight To End Between Bass Pro and Simple Outfitters

Support was strong and swift from the Facebook and Greater Brandon area small-business communities for The Simple Life Outfitters of Valrico, in its logo battle with Bass Pro Shops. That legal challenge reportedly has come to an end.

  Reaction to the legal challenge from Bass Pro Shops over the use of a logo by The Simple Life Outfitters, a small mom-and-pop storefront in Valrico, was swift and harsh from the Greater Brandon small business community. “I’m just infuriated that a big corporation would come in and bully a small business owner,” said Tammy Morningstar of Morningstar Electric, who with her husband, Ken, in 2012 received major small business awards from both the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce. “A little mom-and-pop shop is not competition to a big corporation like that." Who Will Be Named Brandon’s Key Citizen of the Year?

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce each year selects a Key Citizen of the Year, with the newest honoree scheduled to be named at the chamber’s upcoming annual 2013 membership dinner.

  Who will succeed Tammy Holmberg as Brandon's Key Citizen of the Year? That announcement, along with the newest named recipient of the Greater Brandon Community Leadership Award, is scheduled to be made Feb. 1, 2013, at the chamber's annual membership dinner at The Regent. Holmberg received the 2011 Key Citizen of the Year Award, for her tireless work as a community minded business owner, with a slew of testimonials to her credit for the countless number of events she has supported through the years. Holmberg, a former honorary mayor of Brandon, with her husband, Paul, are the owners of the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Lake Brandon Village on Causeway Boulevard. Greater Brandon Trivia Night Mixes With Burgers in Riverview

The Copper Bell Cafe in Riverview, owned by Darren Dennington, the chair-elect of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, is joining the trivia pool with a Friday night offering featuring burger menu specialties.

  Starting this Friday, Nov. 23, the Copper Bell Cafe in Riverview will be hosting the Friday Burger Trivia Night, featuring burger menu specialities and trivia prizes. Copper Bell Cafe in Riveriview is owned and operated by Darren Dennington, the chair-elect of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce. Dennington founded as well the Copper Bell Cafe in Brandon, which is now under new ownership. The Friday Burger Trivia Night is scheduled to run Friday's from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with trivia starts at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30.
