Sinkholes Subject of Seffner Chamber Luncheon

Sinkholes in Seffner have made national news this year following the tragic death of a man swallowed up by a sinkhole in his bedroom at 240 Faithway Drive.

  Sinkholes in Seffner have made national news this year following the tragic death of Jeffrey Bush, who was swallowed up by a sinkhole in his bedroom at 240 Faithway Drive on Feb. 28. At its May 9 luncheon meeting at the First Baptist Church of Mango, the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce is set to provide information about sinkholes in a presentation offered by Helicon Foundation Repair. Attendees will "learn about the types of sinkholes," how "to recognize the signs of sinkholes" and "to understand the methods for repairing sinkholes." Report: Logo Fight To End Between Bass Pro and Simple Outfitters

Support was strong and swift from the Facebook and Greater Brandon area small-business communities for The Simple Life Outfitters of Valrico, in its logo battle with Bass Pro Shops. That legal challenge reportedly has come to an end.

  Reaction to the legal challenge from Bass Pro Shops over the use of a logo by The Simple Life Outfitters, a small mom-and-pop storefront in Valrico, was swift and harsh from the Greater Brandon small business community. “I’m just infuriated that a big corporation would come in and bully a small business owner,” said Tammy Morningstar of Morningstar Electric, who with her husband, Ken, in 2012 received major small business awards from both the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce. “A little mom-and-pop shop is not competition to a big corporation like that." Civic-Minded Lori Libhart Heads ECHO, Seffner Chamber Boards

Lori Libhart serves as board president for both the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce and the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) in Brandon. That’s in addition to her day job, as CEO of LossBusters.

  How does one volunteer end up wearing two hats as the board president of two nonprofit organizations in the Greater Brandon area? "It kind of slides up on you," said Lori Libhart, who is doing just that, as president of both the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce and the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) in Brandon. For Libhart, helping small businesses grow and helping people in emergency situations are part and parcel of what drives her to be active in the community, across many platforms. For years, too, she has worked with the Greater Seffner Area Relay For Life, for which she most recently chaired the team development team. Seffner Chamber Welcomes New Members, Businesses, Anniversaries

The Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce recognized eight member anniversaries and welcomed new members at the group's November luncheon meeting.

Seffner Chamber Commemorates Veterans Day at November Meeting

The Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce met Nov. 8 at the First Baptist Church of Mango for its regular monthly meeting and heard from a major at MacDill Air Force Base in commemoration of Veterans Day.

  The Greater Seffner Chamber of Commerce in October celebrated Thanksgiving Day so in November, at its regular monthly meeting, it could commemorate Veterans Day. At the First Bapist Church of Brandon on Nov. 8, Jorge "Chris" Rodriguez, a major at the MacDill Air Force Base Chief, Wing Intelligence, 6th Air Mobility Wing, spoke to members about life in the military. "I've very thankful for the things the military allows you to do," he said. "I'm very thankful for what the military allows you to be. I'm very thankful for what the military allow you to provide for your family and your community." Stagedoor To Perform at Seffner Relay For Life Banquet Oct. 3

A fundraiser banquet on behalf of the 2013 Seffner Relay For Life will feature "A History of Broadway," presented by actors from Stagedoor Performing Arts. A yard sale in October also will benefit the American Cancer Society's cause to fight cancer.

  A dinner theater performance and buffet dinner is on tap for The Regent in Riverview, at the Oct. 3 fundraiser banquet for the 2013 Seffner Relay For Life at Armwood High School. "All proceeds go to the Seffner Relay for Life teams to help the American Cancer Society put an end to cancer," notes the Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce in an announcement for the event. "Bring the whole family for an enjoyable evening." Last year's Seffner/Dover Relay For Life broke its record, raising more than $35,000 for the American Cancer Society, for its first-ever Relay at Armwood High School. Business Networking, Historic Building Ribbon-Cutting on Tap for Seffner Chamber

The Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce meets July 25 in Brandon for a breakfast meeting on business networking. The Purdy Law firm hosts an open house July 24 in the historic building it renovated and moved into.

  The Greater Seffner Area Chamber of Commerce's focus on networking continues in July with a meeting preceded by an open house and ribbon-cutting for the Purdy Law firm, which has renovated and moved into one of Seffner's historic buildings. The 1 p.m. ribbon-cutting is scheduled for July 24 at 1401 Lenna Ave. in Seffner. The open house runs from noon to 7 p.m. On July 25, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., the "Get Down to Business" breakfast at 320 South Lakewood Drive in Brandon will be facilitated by Libby Libhart, president of the LossBusters division of the LL Training and Consultant Group.
