A transformer is to blame for the outage that lasted only a short time.
All systems are go again at the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office’s Robert L. Gilder Elections Service Center where power was down for a time today. According to the supervisor of elections Twitter feed, power went down around 4:45 p.m. today, Nov. 6. “A transformer went out,” a Tweet from the SOE’s office said. “Backup generators kicked on. We have resumed printing in-person absentee ballots.” The line outside the 2514 N. Falkenburg Road elections office was about 35 minutes long, officials reported shortly after the outage. Power at the county’s voting precincts was not interrupted during the outage.

Early voting is over and the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office reports a record turnout for early bird ballots, including vote-by-mail ballots. Is this a sign of things to come for the 2012 General Election on Nov. 6?
A record-high 166,937 early votes have been cast in Hillsborough County, which breaks the previous General Election record, set in 2008, of 146,558 early votes, according to a news report from the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. More than 138,000 early voting ballots for the 2012 General Election have been cast countywide this week, from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2, reports the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. Early voting ends today, Nov. 3.
More than one-third of the early votes cast in the first seven days of early voting in Hillsborough County have been cast in the southeastern part of the county, according to figures released from the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. As of Nov. 2, at 8:51 p.m., 47,869 early votes were cast collectively at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, Robert L. Planning to vote Nov. 6? Then today, Oct. 9, is the last day to register to vote and to change your party affiliation, reports the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections office. Office hours have been extended to accommodate registrants.
To vote in the 2012 General Election on Nov. 6 voters must register to do so at least 29 days in advance, which means the deadline to do so is today, Tuesday, Oct. 9. The deadline has been extended by one day this year because of the Columbus Day holiday. To accommodate an anticipated rush of late-minute registrants, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard is extending office hours today to 7 p.m. at all four elections offices (see addresses below). Going into the 2012 Primary Election, candidates for local offices in Hillsborough County raised a combined $2.46 million in contributions, of which all but about $55,000 was in monetary donations, according to a Brandon Patch analysis of the latest campaign finance reports filed with the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office. The lesser amount was for "in-kind" contributions, such as the use of a rental space for a fundraising event or a donation of food and coffee for a meet-the-candidate luncheon. For starters, Hillsborough County has more registered Democrats (41 percent) than Republicans (34 percent), with one in four voters registered with no party affiliation or "other," according to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office.
