Who's Name is Popping Up on Brandon Signs and Posts Today (Aug. 28)?

It's an event some people shy away from, but nevertheless prefer it greatly to the alternative. For a notable in town, it marks a milestone. This sign, shot in July, is one of many that Aug. 28 bears the name of the notable and the cause for celebration.

  Big news in town — Tropical Storm Isaac skirts the area. The Republican National Convention is in Tampa, drawing the efforts of numerous volunteers from the Brandon-based Hillsborough County Republican Party. Public schools are open for the fifth day of the academic year. That's news, but not this news, making the rounds in a series of Facebook posts and on signs across the Greater Brandon area today, Aug. 28. Here's a clue: Have you seen B. Lee Elam's sign, at Lumsden Road and Parsons Avenue, the spot where each year the Greater Brandon Fourth of July Parade kicks off? Brandon Chamber's Bracewell Cooks for a Cause, YMCA Benefits

The Copper Bell Cafe's "Cooking for a Cause III” celebrity chef event July 9 featured Tammy Bracewell of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, with proceeds earmarked to send kids to YMCA camps at Brandon, Campo and Camp Christina.

  A crowd of diners made their way to the Copper Bell Cafe in Brandon on July 9, where Tammy Bracewell, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, served a dish of spaghetti and meatballs for the cause of sending children in need to summer camp programs at Camp Christina, the Brandon Family YMCA and the Campo Family YMCA. For Bracewell, it was her third showing at the Copper Bell Cafe annual fundraiser and each year she has cooked for the same cause. "You get a full belly, you promote a local business, you help kids at the Y and you get free delivery from Take Out Butler," she said. "It's a win-win-win-win for everybody." Bracewell 'Cooking for a Cause' at Copper Bell Cafe, YMCA to Benefit

"Cooking for a Cause III" continues July 9 at the Copper Bell Cafe in Brandon, with celebrity chef Tammy Bracewell, president and CEO of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce. Help send a kid to summer camp at the YMCA.

  Tammy Bracewell, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce, is set to open the latest round of "Cooking for a Cause" at the Copper Bell Cafe in Brandon today. The July 9 celebrity chef offering will benefit the YMCA. Bracewell is the fourth local notable in this latest round of celebrity chefs, following Jen Holloway, marketing director for Bright House Networks, on June 25; Hillsborough County School Superintendent MaryEllen Elia on June 18; and State Rep. Hillsborough Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard Set To ‘Cook For a Cause’ at Copper Bell Cafe in Brandon

"Cooking For a Cause II” gets underway April 18 with the second leg of a charitable drive that last year earned more than $10,000 for area charities. Also on this year’s slate of six celebrity chefsis former state Senate President Tom Lee.

Last year six community leaders “Cooking for a Cause" raised $10,414.87 for area charities and this year’s race is on to beat those numbers. The second leg of the race is April 18, at the Copper Bell Café in Brandon, where Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections and former Hillsborough County School Superintendent Earl Lennard, a 1960 graduate of Brandon High School, is set to cook up a dish of chicken and yellow rice. It marks the second year  for Lennard’s participation in the celebrity cook-off instituted by Darren Denington, owner of the Copper Bell Cafe. Last year Lennard raised "$1,800 plus,” for the charity of his choice, the Boys and Girls Club of Riverview, and this year Lennard added that he hopes to raise “at least $2,000” …
