Fallen Heroes From All Wars Remembered at Local Memorial (Photos)

The white crosses planted by the Tampa Area Marine Parents Association on a field in the Greater Brandon and Riverview community of Winthrop stood as testament to a community's diligence in remembering fallen heroes from all branches and all U.S. wars.

In preparation for the Aug. 26 "Run for the Fallen" at the Winthrop community, the Tampa Area Marine Parents Association erected a memorial to fallen soldiers. Thousands of runners were expected at this year's fifth annual run — three times the amount of men, women and children who showed up last year, at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin — which was preceded for the first time by a Saturday night candlelight vigil. Further aiding the effort this year was the permission of Winthrop Town Founders John and Kay Sullivan to allow for the erection of a memorial for a week leading up to the event. The memorial was comprised of planted white crosses bearing the names of Florida soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Larger white …

Which Hitchcock Movie Comes To Mind When You See These Photos?

Shot in a Greater Brandon community during a recent season of bird migration, these photographs bring to mind a popular Alfred Hitchcock movie. Not hard to figure out which one, is it? For extra points, name the community.

Periodically I take time to file photographs shot on assignment in Greater Brandon from seasons long past. Taking a look at these shots, I got the same feeling I did when I saw these views firsthand while driving by a popular planned community in the Greater Brandon community of Riverview. That feeling involved a suspense/horror movie of my youth, with images that still burn bright in my mind’s eye. Care to venture what movie I’m talking about? Did it spook you as much as it spooked me? For extra points, name the community in which these shots were taken.
