Durant High Thespians to Present 'Grease'

The high school will stage the musical Feb. 14-16.

Come dressed in your favorite '50s costume and enjoy a special discount on tickets Thursday, Feb. 14 when the Durant High School Theatre Department opens its production of the musical, Grease. For the Valentine's Day opening at 7 p.m., the cost to attend is $5 and those dressing in poodle skirts and saddle shoes will have a chance to win a costume contest. Prizes will be awarded during intermission. Appropriate for all ages, the production will continue Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16 at 7 p.m. in the Durant High School auditorium. The 14th longest-running show on Broadway, Grease is set in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School and follows 10 working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of love. Cougars Host Wolves in Regional Semifinals Tonight (Nov. 23)

The undefeated Durant Cougars vie for their second prep playoff win, facing the Newsome Wolves at home in Plant City at the Ron Frost Stadium. The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional semifinal games kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

  The undefeated, Class 7A-District 8 champs, the Durant High School Cougars, continue their march for a state crown tonight, Nov. 23, with the second game of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) playoff season. The Class 7A-Region 2 semifinal game, at the Ron Frost Stadium in Plant City, kicks off 7:30 p.m. against crosstown rivals the Newsome Wolves. Durant faces the Wolves (7-4 overall, 4-1 in league play), ranked nationally and in the state at 1,322 and 104, respectively, according to MaxPreps.com. The Durant Cougars on Nov. 16 beat the Tampa Bay Tech Titans in the opening round of the 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) season. Next up for Durant is a rematch with crosstown rivals the Newsome Wolves, who posted their first-round playoff win Nov. 16 with a decisive 52-7 win over Gaither. Durant Football: Cougars Score a Perfect Season With King Shutout Win

The Durant Cougars, at home in Plant City on Nov. 9, walked off the field with a 31-0 shutout win against the King Lions. The District 7A-8 champs left the field with a 10-0 record and the school's first perfect season.

  Following the post-game huddle Nov. 9, head coach Mike Gottman of the Durant High School Cougars took a moment to reflect on the shutout win that propels his team into the record books. "With four minutes left to go in the game I thought, 'We did it,' " Gottman said. "We're going to win this football game." In his 10th year as head coach, Gottman's team went 10-0, capped with the team's fourth shutout victory of the season, a 31-0 win over the King High School Lions. "It's hard to explain," Gottman said, about what he was feeling in the aftermath of the school's record-breaking triumph. Durant Football: Undefeated Season Advances With East Bay Win

The undefeated Durant High School Cougars, under head coach Mike Gottman, beat the East Bay Indians on Oct. 26 to make it an 8-0 season. The game was played on East Bay's turf in Gibsonton.

  Durant's magical football season continued last night, Oct. 26, with a 28-3 win against East Bay, making it eight wins for the undefeated Cougars, which is reported to be the school's best season record ever. Durant High School's head football coach, Mike Gottman, led his team to their fourth Class 7A-District 8 title with the aid of 5-foot-10 fullback Jamarlon Hamilton, No. 10, who reportedly carried the ball 18 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns (1 and 37 yards). The undefeated Durant Cougars look to make it an eight-game winning streak with their contest tonight, Oct. 26, against the East Bay Indians. The game is scheduled to start 7:30 p.m. at East Bay High School in Gibsonton.

Durant Football: Undefeated Season Advances With Newsome Win

The undefeated Durant High School Cougars beat the Newsome Wolves on Oct. 18 to make it a 7-0 season. The game was played on Durant's home turf in Plant City.

  Durant High School's head football coach, Mike Gottman, had nothing but praise for his team last night, after the Cougars remained undefeated with their 38-28 win against the Newsome Wolves at the Ron Frost Stadium in Plant City. "Celebrate it," he told his players after their key Class 7A-District 8 win, in a post-game huddle on Durant's home turf. "And come back to school safe and ready to work, to work as a team." Gottman also behooved his team to "stay humble," which he emphasized in a post-game interview is his personal attitude as well.
