Florida Still Counting Election Votes

Florida once again has a race on its hands that is too close to call.

Even though Florida's 29 electoral votes won't make a difference in the outcome of the Presidential election, Florida once again has a race on its hands that is too close to call. President Barack Obama held a razor-thin thin edge over Gov. Mitt Romney, even as 200,000 votes were left to be counted in Florida. Obama won enough battleground states to win re-election even if he doesn't win Florida. All precincts have reported results, but provisional and absentee ballots still needed to be counted. That includes 9,000 ballots that were still being counted Wednesday in Pinellas County.  It isn't yet clear when a winner in Florida's Presidential race may be declared. Obama held a 0.58% lead on Wednesday afternoon. If the margin falls below 0.…

Election Day Results: Keeping the Watch at Barnacles in Brandon

The East Hillsborough Democratic Club met Election Day night at Barnacles in Brandon, where voters and candidates talked about why their votes and runs mattered as the results came pouring in for local, state and national offices.

Election Day, and their campaigns, came to an end for candidates Gail Gottlieb and Elizabeth Belcher, who joined members and friends of the East Hillsborough County Democratic Club at a watch party at Barnacles in Brandon. There, people talked about their preferred candidates, their passion for politics and their concern for the country's challenges as they celebrated as well their right to vote. "This is a celebration of all of our hard work and, for me, it's a celebration of my 60th birthday," said Angie Angel, the club's past president. "We're here waiting to see the fruits of our labor." Club members waited long enough to learn that Democrat and club member Elizabeth Belcher lost her bid for the District 24 state Senate seat that …

Rich Glorioso at O'Brien's in Brandon Concedes His Race for Elections Supervisor

Rich Glorioso, who served as a Plant City commissioner and later as a state representative, lost his 2012 bid for Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections. He met with friends and supporters at O'Brien's Irish Pub and Family Restaurant in Brandon.

Rich Glorioso and his wife were among friends and supporters at O'Brien's Irish Pub and Family Restaurant in Brandon as the results of the 2012 General Election started filtering in. With results streaming in, he conceded to them that it was not likely he would be the next Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections. Later in the night, Glorioso would learn that he lost his race to Democrat Craig Latimer, the current chief of staff to Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Earl Lennard, who did not seek re-election. "Right now we're behind," Glorioso said before offering his concession speech. "I believe it would be very tough to pick up what we need to pick up." As supporters fretted over the absentee and early voting results, …

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

Comint is indeed a type of Sigint, and I meant to say Elint (also a type of Sigint). And yes, there are multiple types of intel, but my point was that there are often conflicts in information that is coming in in real time and I was giving examples. In the Benghazi situation, I'd professionally wager that the best source will be Humint, supplemented by Comint. And, as multiple echelons were …   more ›

Florida’s Constitutional Amendments: What Passed, What Didn’t and What That Means

Take a closer look at the 11 constitutional amendments and how Floridians voted on them.

The Nov. 6 ballot was one of the largest Florida voters have ever seen and here’s why: there were 11 proposed constitutional amendments up for consideration. Amendments require a 60 percent or higher approval rate to pass. Based on results calculated by the state’s Division of Elections, here’s what passed and what didn’t at of 1 a.m. Nov. 7: Florida Amendment 1: Health Care Services – Fail With most of Florida’s precincts reporting, this amendment did not meet the 60 percent requirement to pass. The amendment would have given Florida the ability to opt out of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Florida Amendment 2: Veterans Disabled to Combat Injury; Homestead Property Tax Discount – Pass With most of …

District 4 Sends Al Higginbotham Back to County Commission

Higginbotham attributed his win to grassroots campaigning and hard-working volunteers.

Only an hour and 45 minutes after the polls closed, District 4 Hillsborough County Commission candidate Mark Nash, D-Lithia, knew he'd lost the race. At a gathering with supporters at the Hilton Garden Inn in Riverview, Nash intently watched the computer as the Supervisor of Elections Office released the precinct totals. Carrying just 38 percent of the vote, Nash conceded to incumbent County Commissioner Al Higginbotham, R-Plant City. "I congratulate Al," said Nash. "It's obvious I don't have the votes." However, Nash stopped short of calling his bid for office a failure. "A lot of good things came out of it. I reconnected with a lot of friends and even relatives," said Nash. Among those supporting Nash was a cousin he didn't know he had …

Obama Wins Majority of Hillsborough’s Vote

President Barack Obama has carried Hillsborough County for the second election in a row.

The results are in and Hillsborough County has named its choice for the White House. President Barack Obama has taken the county with 52.63 percent of the vote. A total of 277,432 ballots were cast in Obama’s favor within Hillsborough County. Republican challenger Gov. Mitt Romney came in second with 243,323 ballots cast in his favor, which works out to 46.16 percent. A total of 527,169 votes were cast in the presidential race in Hillsborough, according to the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Election Office. While Obama won’t gain any precious electoral votes from Hillsborough County alone, he can say he carried the county. In 2008, Hillsborough voters also chose Obama over Republican challenger John McCain. In that race, Obama took 272,…
