Valrico Rotary Club Set for Pig-A-Palooza at Rotary's Camp Florida

Ready for some southern-style barbecue? The second annual, 2013 Pig-A-Palooza Southern Style BBQ, presented by the Valrico Rotary Club at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon, is set for March 9.

  The Valrico Rotary Club, which serves the Greater Brandon area, has announced the March 9 date for the 2013 Pig-a-Palooza Southern Style BBQ to be held at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon, an 18-acre camp for children with special needs. Proceeds benefit "many of the local charities in the Greater Brandon area, including the Bill Carey Boys & Girls Club in Brandon, Faces of Courage, Rotary's Camp Florida, the Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO), LLT Academy Learning Fun and LifeCare of Brandon. Lunch for a Cause at Genghis Grill and Help Rotary's Camp Florida

Eat today, Feb. 6, at the Genghis Grill in Brandon, mention the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's "Leadership Brandon" effort to help Rotary's Camp Florida, and a portion of your check will be sent as a donation.

  The Genghis Grill in Brandon is set to serve for a cause today, Feb. 6, as a fundraiser for the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Brandon program, which this year aims to help beautify Rotary's Camp Florida. "The purpose of the fundraiser is to help our class complete a beautification and improvement project at Rotary's Camp Florida," reads a Facebook notice posted about the event. Video: Check for All Persons Playground Water Feature Presented at Rotary Meeting

Rotarians present a check for $2,500, raised at the FishHawk crawfish festival in May, to further the effort of a water feature at Rotary's All Persons Playground at Clayton Park in Brandon. The feature's anticipated opening is summer 2013.

  John Sullivan, a former president of the Brandon '86 Rotary Club, and now a member of the Rotary Club of FishHawk-Riverview, who spearheaded the push for a water feature at Rotary's All Persons Playground at Clayton Park in Brandon, accepted on behalf of the effort a $2,500 check from his current club, which he said provides "the last piece of the puzzle that will last a long time." Boats Needed for Rotary's Alafia Lighted Boat Parade, Entry Fee Waived

The Rotary Club of FishHawk-Riverview is waiving the $25 entry fee for the 29th annual Alafia Lighted Boat Parade, scheduled for Dec. 1 at the riverfront International Independent Showmen's Association.

  Boat owners, light up, Rotarians need you! Deck your vessels with Christmas lights and participate in the 29th annual Alafia Lighted Boat Parade on Dec. 1, from 5 to 9 p.m., for which the $25 entry fee is being waived. The event, hosted by the FishHawk-Riverview Rotary Club, will take place at the International Independent Showmen's Association, 6915 Riverview Drive, Riverview. The event is free for spectators and includes photos with Santa, kid's activities, entertainment, food and beverages for purchase, a silent auction, door prizes and a chili cook-off as well as a chance to see lighted boats parade up and down the Alafia River. Taste Chili Today at the Fair's Rotary Cook-off in Dover

Taste chili for a cause at the annual chili cook-off presented by the Rotary Club of FishHawk / Riverview at the Hillborough County Fair. The event is Oct. 21, from 10 to 5, at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in the Greater Brandon community of Dover.

  Taste chili for a cause at the Hillsborough County Fair today, Oct. 21. For the fifth year, members of the Rotary Club of FishHawk/Riverview have invited residents to dig out their best chili recipes and compete for a chance to be named chili champion at the Hillsborough County Fair. The club will host its chili cook-off from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds in the Greater Brandon community of Dover, just north of State Road 60 on Sydney-Washer Road. Fairgoers will taste and judge the chili made by the contest's group, individual and youth entrants. Brandon Rotarians Seek 'Denizens of the Deep' Vendors, Attendees

The Rotary Club of Brandon '86 is hard at work for this year's Denizens of the Deep Southern Family Fish Fry, held annually at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon. Admission this year has been reduced. The deadline for vendor discounts is Oct. 15.

  The Rotary Club of Brandon '86 seeks food and arts and crafts vendors for its 19th annual Denizens of the Deep Southern Family Fish Fry, scheduled this year for Nov. 3, at Rotary's Camp Florida in Brandon. The deadline to register and pay for a discounted booth is Oct. 15. The cost is $75. Thereafter, the cost is $100 per booth. The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3, at 1915 Camp Florida Road, off South Lakewood Drive in Brandon. The annual event attracts hundreds of Greater Brandon residents. Rotarian Ann Wade Recounts Her Childhood Battle With Polio

Ann Wade, wife of Tom Wade, the district governor of Rotary District 6890, spoke to Greater Brandon Rotarians about her childhood struggle with polio at Hope Haven Hospital in Florida. She works to help Rotary International eradicate polio worldwide.

  The ultimate goal for Rotary International is to eradicate polio, which is a mission that strikes home for Ann Wade, wife of Tom Wade, the district governor of Rotary District 6890. The district covers the Greater Brandon area, where the Rotary Club of Brandon South met earlier this month at the Buckhorn Springs Golf & Country Club in Valrico.  There, Tom Wade discussed district news and club updates, including the Rotary drive to rid the world of polio, which he reported dates back 5,000 years. Wade introduced his wife, who stood up to speak about her personal battle with polio, as a youngster barely old enough to go to school. This goal of eradicting Polio is a major world goal for Rotary and hundreds of millions have been spent world wide to stop this. New Board and 5 Things To Know About Brandon '86 Rotarians

The Rotary Club of Brandon '86 met at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City to install its board of directors for the 2012-13 service year.

  The Rotary Club of Brandon '86 recently installed its newest board of officers at the group's 26th annual meeting, held June 29 at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City. Alan Feldman, a member of the Roatary Club of Brandon, from which the younger club traces its roots, serves as this year's Rotary's District 6890 Governor. In that role, at the historic restaurant, he presided over the installation of Stoddard Pickrell as the newest club president for Brandon '86.
