After teaching math, history, and literature in a private school in Tampa for twenty-one years, I decided to turn to painting, an activity which had intrigued me for years.  Beginning with acrylics and soon turning to watercolor, I experimented with the many acrylic and watercolor mediums available, took painting workshops and classes, and joined the Florida Watercolor Society as well as several local art groups. I am a past board member of the Florida Watercolor Society, active in local art groups, an appointed member of the Hillsborough County Arts Council, a founding board member of the Greater Brandon Arts Council, and a member of Studio Friday, a group of seven professional artists who paint and exhibit together on the west coast of Florida.

Evolving my approach to art has been exciting.  I have progressed from realistic watercolors on paper to non- representational acrylics and collages on canvas and paper, and am happy using any and all of the myriad of materials available. Most often I combine mediums in my work in order to produce paintings with intensity and strength as well as nuances in  texture and color. My palette is often accentuated with the use of  gouache or white paint to produce opaques and create depth.  One painting may be finished in a matter of a few days while others may take weeks or months to come to completion.  I am a firm believer that no piece of paper or canvas should  be  wasted so  I recycle old or unfinished pieces by using gesso or other undercoatings to prepare for a new beginning. Finding joy in color, shape and texture,  I so enjoy what I do, and want my art to be engaging, entertaining and friendly to the viewer and at the same time serious.

My interests include travel and photography as well as fostering community involvement in the arts, giving art demonstrations, and occasionally teaching water media to school children as a volunteer.  Besides paintings, I create original note cards incorporating unusual papers, hand-marbled paper, original art work, and embossing techniques.

I an a member of several art organization as and currently president of the greater Brandon Arts Council.  I received the "Arts Activist of the Year Brush Strokes Award" in 2006.
