The General Jubal A. Early Camp #556 is the home of the true “Unreconstructed Confederates”.  Members of the Early Camp, following in the same spirit as our namesake, refuse to apologize for their Southern heritage.  While the politically correct crowd tries to extinguish all symbols of the Confederacy, we proudly embrace the fact that our ancestors defiantly repelled the invading Yankee armies and honourably endured the tyranny of reconstruction.

Based out of Tampa, Florida the Early Camp is the premiere Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp in Central Florida with membership of over 100 loyal compatriots.  Honouring the memory of their Confederate ancestors, the members of the Early Camp valiantly answer the Charge given by General Stephen D. Lee at the 1906 New Orleans meeting of the United Confederate Veterans,

<i>“To you, Sons of Confederate Veterans, we will commit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldier&#39;s good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also, and those ideals which made him glorious and which you also cherish.”</i>

The Gen. Early Camp is extremely active and members are provided many opportunities to join their fellow compatriots.  The most visible example is the Confederate Memorial Park of which the Early Camp is the host caretakers.  Located on SR 92 just east of Tampa, beside Interstate 75, the park contains engraved granite panels and a sitting area with the focal point being the world’s largest Confederate flag flying above.

Membership in the prestigious Early Camp Colour Guard is another opportunity for members to show their Southern pride.  The Colour Guard participates in parades, cemetery memorial dedications, medal bestowal ceremonies and other heritage-based events.  In the spirit of General Early himself, these men in uniform do not wilt to the pressure of mis-educated or disgruntled groups bent on repressing the true history of the South prior to the War of Northern Aggression.

Aligned with other local Southern heritage groups, the Early Camp works closely with the Mary and Mollie Bell Chapter 20 of the Order of Confederate Rose (OCR) and the 7th Florida Company K Confederate reenactment unit.   The OCR is an opportunity for wives, daughters, and girlfriends of SCV members to participate in, and contribute towards, our ongoing efforts to honour and perpetuate the true history of our Confederate ancestors.  Company K invites those interested in skirmishes and battlefield maneuvers joining them in historically accurate reenactments.

Camp #556 annually holds several fellowship meetings that involve a supper meal and often has a keynote speaker or other entertainment.  Separate meetings are held to handle camp business.  The General Jubal A. Early Camp continues to be very active in supporting various historical preservation projects, not to mention the avid defense of the Confederate soldier and Confederate symbols.
