8 Kids, 3 Adults And 86 Grams Of Methamphetamine

Acting on a tip called into Crime Stoppers, Hillsborough deputies responded to a hotel in Seffner and reportedly found a meth lab.

Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip that someone was manufacturing methamphetamine at a local hotel, deputies found an active lab beneath the bathroom sink in a room at the Masters Inn Tampa East in Seffner, according to a report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Facing eight counts of child abuse is Devin Ray Devoe, 21, of Seffner, whose address was listed as Room No. 232 at the hotel, at 6010 County Road 579. Also lodged were charges of possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture of a controlled substance and trafficking in illegal drugs.

"Deputies were invited into the room by Devoe and came in contact with eight children and three adults," according to the sheriff's office report. "Several rooms were evacuated" and "members of the clandestine lab team neutralized the vessels at the scene."

Deputies acted on the tip Tuesday, June 25. Also in response were Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, HAZMAT and representatives from the Child Protection Investigation Division.

According to the report, "deputies seized 86 grams of methamphetamine from the lab." Devoe had "1.6 grams of marijuana and 0.3 grams of methamphetamine in his pockets."

What Is Methamphetamine?
(Source: National Institute on Drug Abuse)

  • Methamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant drug that is similar in structure to amphetamine.
  • Due to its high potential for abuse, methamphetamine is classified as a Schedule II drug and is available only through a prescription that cannot be refilled.
  • Although methamphetamine can be prescribed by a doctor, its medical uses are limited, and the doses that are prescribed are much lower than those typically abused.
  • Most of the methamphetamine abused in this country comes from foreign or domestic superlabs, although it can also be made in small, illegal laboratories, where its production endangers the people in the labs, neighbors, and the environment.
